This week, 23-26 September, Statistics Norway (SSB) organises in cooperation with the EFTA Statistical Office a course on the use of administrative registers in production of statistics. The course takes place in Oslo and is a part of the European Statistical Training Programme. The course will be given by lecturers from the statistical institutes in Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands and is open for participation from EU and EFTA countries.

Main Topics of the Course:

  • The register-based approach: Why register-based statistics, definitions of basic concepts, general preconditions, requirements to data from  administrative sources.
  • Management of base registers, how to manage units and variables in base registers
  • From administrative data to statistics: Editing, use of multiple sources, establishing a register-based statistical system
  • Combined use of data from registers and sample surveys: Examples from population and housing censuses
  • Quality issues: Quality assessments, metadata, coordination
