On 25 June, the Control Committee from Nordland County Council and the North Norway European Office visited the EFTA Statistical Office in Luxembourg. After a tour in the European Court of Auditors, the Committee was welcomed at the EFTA Statistical Office in the premises of Eurostat by Gabriel Gamez and Richard Ragnarsøn. They presented the statistical cooperation between EFTA and the EU.
The role of statistics in modern societies and why statistics have become more important in recent years for policy making were central topics. Furthermore, Gjermund Mathisen from the EFTA Court presented the role of the Court and discussed some of the cases that have received attention in the media. Finally, the seminar was rounded off by Anne Mari Auno – EFTA expert in Eurostat – who described the stabilisation and accession process in the Western Balkans and Turkey.
