Seminars  

The EFTA Secretariat in Brussels organises a biannual seminar on the EEA and EFTA. The aim of the seminar is to provide professionals with a thorough overview of the EEA, including its structure and procedures. It also focuses on current issues driving the future development of the EEA, such as the EEA financial mechanisms and future perspectives for EFTA and the EEA.

In addition to the EEA EFTA seminars, EFTA regularly organises and/or contributes to other EEA related seminars and workshops. Below you will find an overview of recent events.

On 9 and 10 June 2011, around 90 participants from both the public and private sectors in the EEA met at the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels for its biannual seminar on the EEA.

Conference on Energy and Climate, Bergen

On Monday, 13 October, 2008 the EFTA Parliamentary Committee and the EFTA Consultative Committee presented a joint conference on energy and climate in Bergen, Norway, called “From Bali to Copenhagen: Developing the right toolbox to fight climate change in a globalised economy”.

The EFTA Secretariat held its biannual EEA Seminar on 12 and 13 June 2008, at the Secretariat's offices in Brussels.

EFTA held a workshop on Certification and Marking

On 11 June EFTA, in co-operation with the European Commission and the European Parliament, held a workshop entitled "Certification and marking for Europe." Through presentations from many stakeholders and follow-up discussions, diverging opinions were expressed and views exchanged. The workshop was attended by 100 representatives of important stakeholders.

Gordon Clark, Head of Unit with the European Commission gave a presentation of the role of the OMC within the Lifelong Learning agenda.
EFTA held conference on the Open Method of Coordination and Lifelong Learning

On the 14th of May the Working group on Education, Training and Youth opened up the doors of the EFTA Secretariat for a conference on the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) and Lifelong Learning. Though difficult to grasp, OMC known for its soft law mechanisms, has developed into an important tool for EU policymaking and is a central part of the renewed Lisbon Strategy. The day-long seminar brought together both practitioners and academics for a fruitful debate and was a great success.

The biannual Seminar on the EEA was held 22 and 23 November in Brussels with 107 persons attending from all corners of Europe. The first day covered the institutions and activities under the EEA Agreement.
