EFTA Standing and EEA Joint Committees meet on 20 and 21 October 2011

JC Meeting

The EFTA Standing Com­mittee and EEA Joint Com­mittee met in Brussels on 20 and 21 October respectively. Liechtenstein was Chair both of the Standing Committee and, on behalf of the EEA EFTA States, of the Joint Committee.

In the Standing Committee, the Norwegian delegation reported on the visit by Fisheries Commissioner Maria Damanaki to Norway. Iceland reported on the visit by Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle to Iceland, and the EFTA Secretary-General updated the Committee on third-country relations.

Finally, the Icelandic delegation gave a status report on Iceland’s accession to the EU.

In the Joint Committee meeting, 12 decisions were adopted incorporating 49 legal acts into the EEA Agreement, one of which, on ambient air quality and cleaner air is explained further in a separate news item on the EFTA website.
