The Standing Committee of the EEA EFTA States met on 24 September. The Standing Committee adopted Decision No 9/2009 repealing Decision 2/2009 and amending Decision 9/1994 reversing earlier exemptions from working time and rest periods in road transport requested by Iceland.
The Secretary General briefed the Committee on the finalisation of the EEA statistics project which had been completed earlier than anticipated, and informed that the system would significantly improve access to accurate information about the EEA acquis. The Standing Committee noted the report by the Secretariat on the project. The Director of the Financial Mechanism Office addressed the Committee on the activities of the Financial Mechanism Committee as outlined in its annual report for May 2008 to April 2009.
The Joint Committee adopted 10 decisions incorporating 14 legal acts. The Committee received a briefing from DG Markt on the Commission Proposals on European Financial Supervision. Lastly, the Commission expressed its concerns on the long delay in incorporating the Food Law Package in Iceland and hoped that when the Parliament reconvened in October it would finalise the bill as soon as possible.
