Deputy Secretary-General Bergdis Ellertsdottir signs on behalf of EFTA

On the 1st April 2009, in a ceremony in Brussels, the EFTA Deputy Secretary General Bergdis Ellertsdottir signed on behalf of EFTA a set of general guidelines with the European Commission, the European cooperation for Accreditation, and national authorities including Norway, Switzerland and Iceland, which set out the defining principles and objectives for future co-operation in the field of accreditation procedures across Europe.

In speaking at the ceremony Ms Ellertsdottir emphasised the EFTA commitment to supporting and strengthening the system of accreditation at both a national and European level and pledged to continue its support to the accreditation process which makes a vital contribution to the free movement of safe products in Europe. The signing of the guidelines is an important step in the building of trust in the marketing of safe goods and ensuring better protection of the fundamental rights of the European citizens.
