Expert meeting on the Revised EU Emission Trading Scheme Directive
Published:  25-03-2009

Experts from the EEA EFTA States and from DG Environment met in Brussels on 25 March to discuss the Revised EU Emission Trading Scheme Directive. The EEA EFTA States have, through the EEA Agreement, participated in the EU Emission Trading Scheme since 2008.

The meeting focused on further clarifying the aim and technical aspects of the amendments to the Directive, including the Community wide quantity of emission allowances, the auctioning of emission allowances, the use of the project based Kyoto mechanism, carbon leakage, benchmarking, and state aid rules. The meeting is an important first step in evaluating the EEA impact of the Revised EU Emission Trading Scheme Directive.
