The EFTA Council discussed the Ministerial meeting and free trade relations

The EFTA Council met in Geneva on 8 December 2009 for its eleventh meeting of the year. It discussed the meeting of EFTA Ministers in December 2009 and reviewed relations with countries outside the European Union.

At the EFTA Ministerial meeting in Geneva on 17 December, Ministers will discuss relations with present and future free trade partners and meet with Members of Parliament from the four EFTA countries. Moreover, Ministers will sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Serbia.

The Council received a debriefing on the recent 9th Joint-Committee meeting with Turkey under the EFTA-Turkey FTA. The agreement with Turkey is the “longest-serving” among EFTA’s FTA network. Delegates expressed their satisfaction with the adoption of a Protocol on Mutual Recognition of Conformity Assessments on this occasion.


The next meeting of the Council will take place on 25 January 2010.
