Visit from the Icelandic Minister for the Environment

Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir, the Icelandic Minister for the Environment, visited the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels on 3 March for a meeting with Deputy Secretary-General, Bergdis Ellertsdottir.

The minister had a briefing on the work of the EFTA Secretariat, and on the functioning of the EEA Agreement, including possible implications for the EEA following the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. The minister then discussed several key environmental issues, including the new EU package on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, the revision of the EU Emission Trading Scheme, the Marine Environment Directive, and EU Maritime Policy.
